The Actual Main Institute (TAMI) acts as a starting-point for a range of imagined cultural institutions, ranging from public museums (such as Het Tijdelijk Museum) to research institutes, and private art galleries.
TAMI is an investigation into what a cultural institution truly is, and acts as a placeholder or framework for those in need of an adequate context to fit their work - turning around the order of supply and demand between practitioner and exhibition space. Rather than a physical, permanent venue, it serves as an adaptable container for a wide range of expressions, and plays out several roles and functions.
The Actual Main Institute was first imagined in 2022 by conceptual artist and contextual designer Maren Oline Bang, using techniques from theatre, storytelling and pataphysic design. TAMI is supported by Stimuleringsfonds NL and Fonds Kwadrat.
